On May 26, His Royal Highness Prince Andrew Albert Christian Edward, Duke of York, visited GZU, accompanied by Lu Yongzheng, vice governor of Guizhou province. He received a warm welcome by academician Song Baoan, president of GZU, and vice president Zhang Qin.
“It’s smart! You know actually the first drone was accomplished in 6 months. And you used just 1 month. That’s impressive.” His Royal Highness Andrew was deeply impressed by innovative students at the national university science park of GZU. He asked students about principles behind their works like drone, fight robot, 3D printer and auto plotter, amazed also by students’ awarded works, volume analysis designs and innovation achievements of the maker space.
At the Academy of Chinese Culture, His Royal Highness was brief about this academy and Xi Jingpin’s visit to this place as a vice president several years ago.
At the square inside, he watched ethnic performance of students and learned some knowledge about ethic minorities and traditional custom of Guizhou province.
He then witnessed the signing of cooperative agreement between Guizhou University and University of Huddersfield.
Before taking a group photo, he visited the Hanyuan Building and asked about the differences and links between Chinese and western cultures when viewing traditional classics like The Yongle Canon and The Si Ku Quan Shu.

Prince Andrew is a member of the British royal family. He is the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Now he is seventh in the line of succession to the British throne. In 2004, Prince Andrew visited China for the first time as special representative of UK trade and investment transactions. On July 25, 2012, he invited Kweichow Moutai Group to “Chinese Night” at Windsor Castle, and paid a return visit to Moutai in October 2014. In April 2018, he met Guizhou Deputy Party Secretary and Governor Shen Yiqin at the UK and then was invited to visit Guizhou this May, meeting with Shen Yiqin and Guizhou Party Secretary Sun Zhigang at the 2018 Big Data Expo.
