Guizhou University School of Medicine was established on June 27, 2016. On April 15, 2018, Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital was officially listed as Guizhou University People's Hospital. In December 2019, the provincial government approved Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital to become an affiliated hospital of Guizhou University. On June 10, 2022, Guizhou University Stomatological Hospital, jointly established by the People's Government of Guiyang City and Guizhou University, was officially launched. After the establishment of the college, in combination with the development plan of the big health and medical industry during the 13th Five Year Plan period in Guizhou Province and the implementation plan for deepening medical education collaboration in Guizhou Province, and in accordance with the development laws of higher education medical disciplines, the school has clarified its differentiated, distinctive, and first-class educational positioning, and determined the development concept of facing the future, moderately advanced, staggered development, building characteristics, and tackling difficulties first.

In 2019, the Key Laboratory for Diagnosis and Treatment of Pulmonary Immune Diseases at Guizhou University People's Hospital (Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital) was established based on the existing joint laboratory of the Respiratory Disease Research Institute, the Central Laboratory, and the Nephrology Department of the Provincial People's Hospital, and was approved as a key laboratory of the National Health Commission. In December 2019, Peking Union Medical College, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, signed a cooperation agreement with the Guizhou Provincial Health Commission for the Group Medicine discipline construction project, and the construction of the Group Medicine discipline was launched at Guizhou University.

The college currently offers six majors: Nursing (Bachelor's degree), Medical Laboratory Technology (Bachelor's degree), Social Medicine and Health Management (Master's degree), Biology and Medicine (Master's degree), Biomedicine (Master's and Doctoral degrees), and Medical Information Engineering (Master's and Doctoral degrees). The enrollment scale is 80 undergraduate students, 40 master's students, and 10 doctoral students.
