On July 27, the 17th National University Advanced Mapping Technology and Product Information Modeling Innovation Competition opened at Guizhou University. The event was co-hosted by the Professional Committee on Graphics Technology and the Product Information Modeling Committee of the China Graphics Society, Guizhou University, and the organizing committee of the competition. Attendees at the opening ceremony included Chen Yunkun, Deputy Director of the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education; Chen Xiangsheng, Vice President of Guizhou University; Tao Ye, Secretary-General of the competition’s organizing committee; Shao Likang, director of the organizing committee; and Li Shaobo, Vice President of Guizhou Institute of Technology.
Chen Yunkun emphasized that this competition, a key educational initiative, provides a platform for students and teachers to learn, exchange ideas, and innovate. By integrating learning with competition, it promotes exploration in graphics and design methods, fostering innovation, practical skills, and teamwork. Chen also highlighted the importance of instilling patriotism and encouraging students to tackle technical challenges and apply their knowledge to real-world problems.
Vice President Chen Xiangsheng noted that the competition has become a premier platform for showcasing students’ skills in graphics and modeling. It has grown into a major educational event that promotes craftsmanship, innovation, and practical engineering skills, advancing education and research in digital graphics and product information modeling across Chinese universities. Dubbed the “Olympics of the graphics field” due to its scale, level, and participation, the competition has been instrumental in fostering innovation at Guizhou University. Chen encouraged participants to perform their best, share knowledge, and develop creative ideas through interaction with their peers.
At the ceremony, Lu Guodong, Director of the Engineering Graphics Course Education Steering Committee under the Ministry of Education, and Shao Likang delivered remarks. The ceremony also featured a flag presentation to the host institution and oaths by panel and participant representatives.
The competition drew nearly 400,000 students from 895 universities, with 12,694 students advancing to the finals.
