The 11th International Symposium on "New Zixue" (New Studies on Chinese Philosophical Schools) opened on the morning of July 20 at the Guiyang Confucius Academy. Hosted by the College of Liberal Arts at Guizhou University and co-organized by the Advanced Research Institute of Guiyang Confucius Academy, the event attracted scholars and participants from around the world.

Notable attendees included GZU Vice President Wang Jinrong, Party Secretary of the College of Liberal Arts Li Kaixue, Deputy Director of the Guiyang Confucius Academy Xiao Libin, as well as prominent scholars such as Professor Fang Yong from East China Normal University, Professor Choi Nam-Gyu from Jeonbuk National University, and Honorary Professor Kim Baek-Hyun from Gangneung-Wonju National University in South Korea. Over 90 participants, including professors and graduate students from both domestic and international universities and research institutions, were present. The opening ceremony was moderated by Tan Dexing, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts.

In his opening address, Wang Jinrong emphasized the importance of Zixue (philosophical schools of thought) as the cornerstone of Chinese culture, embodying the wisdom of ancient sages. He explained that "New Zixue" is a modern interpretation of these philosophies, firmly rooted in China's cultural heritage and integrated with contemporary societal needs. He highlighted its academic and practical significance in promoting the modernization and innovative development of Chinese traditional culture.

Xiao Libin echoed this sentiment, stressing three key points: first, Zixue is an essential part of Chinese and East Asian culture; second, East China Normal University, as the originator of "New Zixue," has historical connections to Guiyang’s Huaxi district during the war period; and third, China and South Korea, with their shared cultural values, should further enhance cooperation to foster mutual understanding and peaceful development. He also invited participants to explore the vibrant culture of Guizhou.

Li Kaixue provided an overview of the College of Liberal Arts, mentioning its history and the distinguished scholars who have contributed to its development. He noted the college's significant role in cultivating literary talent, including notable figures such as He Shiguang and Ouyang Qiansen, a recipient of the Lu Xun Literary Award.

The symposium received over 90 papers, covering a wide range of topics related to contemporary Zixue development. Discussions were held in five groups.
