On October 21st, Academician Song Bao’an, President of GZU participated in the Shennong Agricultural Science and Technology Innovation Conference in Chengdu. He delivered an academic report titled “Current Status and Prospects of Green Development of Pesticides” at the conference.

Song pointed out that pesticides are an important “weapon” in modern agriculture to ensure food security. Comparison between traditional pesticides and green pesticides in terms of utilization rate, residual risks, production costs, and environmental risks shows that traditional pesticides are no longer able to meet the requirements of modern agriculturalization. Therefore, it is urgent to accelerate the green development of pesticides in our country. In the report, Song highlighted the construction of China’s green pesticide innovation system, the optimization of the healthy development of the green pesticide industry, and the green pesticide innovation goals such as the efficient utilization technology system of pesticides in the next 5 to 10 years.

The conference, themed “Empowering Scientific and Technological Innovation to Safeguard the National Granary”, was organized by the Human Resources Development Center of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the China Association of Agricultural Science. It aimed to discuss the latest achievements in agricultural science and technology innovation to support stable supply of national food as well as important agricultural products, and to promote high-quality agricultural development. It will enhance self-reliance in high-level agricultural science and technology and provide strong support for the construction of an agricultural powerhouse.
