On February 9, a conference was held to promote the construction of the Institute of ASEAN Research and the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) Research Center at Guizhou University (GZU). Present at the conference were Li Jianjun, Secretary of the Party Committee of GZU, and the heads of relevant institutions and departments. The conference was chaired by Linghu Caitao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of GZU.

At the conference, Linghu announced the personnel appointment of the Institute of ASEAN Research and the BSR Research Center, and expressed her congratulations to the newly appointed officials. The heads of the research institute and the center reported on their work and received suggestions from Cui Haiyang, director of Humanities and Social Sciences Department.

Li Jianjun pointed out that GZU has taken initiative to build a research and innovation platform for humanities and social sciences in recent years. He highly valued the role of the Institute of ASEAN Research and the BSR Research Center in scientific research, talent cultivation, social services and capacity building of GZU and in the revitalization and development of humanities and social science of the university.

Li hoped that the two institutes would tackle difficulties and make breakthroughs in their special research field through cooperation with related departments according to the requirements for the development of the country and the times, and that the leaders will take the lead in conducting research and study, keep innovative and make signature achievements.

The ASEAN Research Center was established in 2009 when GZU held the “China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week”. In 2012, this center was officially approved by the Ministry of Education as “Key Research Bases on the Breeding Stage for Foreign Country & Regional Studies” and thus became the first-ever humanities and social sciences research base in Guizhou Province. In August 2013, GZU set up a substantive research institute, namely, the Institute of ASEAN Research.

The BSR Research Center is also an international and regional research base approved by the Ministry of Education, with a focus on the important issues of the Baltic countries, including politics, economy, technology, culture, etc.
