On February 24, 2021, the tea industry development conference of Guizhou was held. A number of GZU faculty members received the "2020 Award for Guizhou’s Remarkable Individuals of the Tea Industry”. The recipients are Lu Litang, dean of College of Tea Science, Chen Zhuo, deputy director of the Research and Development Center for Fine Chemicals, and Jin Linhong, deputy director of the State Key Laboratory of Green Pesticides and Agricultural Bioengineering affiliated with the Ministry of Education. Vice-Chancellor Yang Song gave a speech at the meeting on behalf of GZU.

With a focus on improving the quality of tea and bolstering the tea industry, the conference is designed to: a. commend outstanding performance and role models; and b. motivate officials of every level to promote the spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship, and encourage others to strive in their work with determination, creativity, and passion. Twenty industry sectors and one hundred and forty individuals have been recognized for their efforts in promoting the tea industry and related businesses. This acknowledgement was given based upon the review and recommendation approved by leaders of the tea industry and the provincial government, and sanctioned by the leaders tasked with revolutionizing the rural industry and tea industry within the province.
