In response to the call to “speak and tell of great things about GZU”, on the afternoon of April 19th, a launching ceremony for the establishment of “Xishan Integrated Media Center” (referred to as the Center) and the campus studio of GZU was held in the Mingzheng Building auditorium on the West Campus. This is the first university-level media center in Guizhou, marking a significant step into a stage for GZU’s news releases.

Attending the ceremony were Li Jianjun, Secretary of the Party Committee of GZU; Luo Changjiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee; and key personnel from the Press and Publication office of the Publicity Department of the Provincial Party Committee, the Department of Internet Review and Social Work under Cyberspace Affairs Office of the Provincial Party Committee, and the Provincial Internet Culture Association. Also joining the meeting were some media representatives from the China Youth Daily, Guizhou Daily, Guizhou Broadcasting TV station, Xinhuanet, Colorful Guizhou Net and provincial media network. More than 100 participants from GZU attended the event including key personnel in charge of public affairs from grassroots Party Committees (Party Work Committees) as well as representatives of teachers and students.

Luo Changjiang delivered a speech. He remarked that news media is faced with new challenges as a result of in-depth communication changes. The establishment of the Center will therefore meet three urgent needs: 1) expanding the scale of mainstream news media; 2) improving the power of the campus media in terms of its communication, guidance, influence and credibility, and 3) providing better service for teachers and students and the general public audience. He expressed his hopes for the Center in three key points: upholding the leadership of the Party and laying a solid ideological foundation for the teachers and students; persisting to innovate and building new momentum for communication; and adhering to the notion of integrated development in a bid to build a school media platform on campus featuring inter-connectivity.

Li Jianjun and Luo Changjiang jointly unveiled the "Xishan Integrated Media Center".

At the ceremony, the China Youth Daily Guizhou School Media Integrated Innovation Base, Xinhuanet Guizhou Branch Media Integrated Innovation Base, Guizhou Daily’s Reporter Station at GZU, and Reporter Station of Colorful Guizhou News at GZU were officially established.

An advisory team, composed of six experts from China Youth Daily, Xinhuanet, Guizhou Radio and Television Station, was formed for the Center.

At the same time, four Internship and Practice Bases were officially established at the Center in connection with the following colleges: the College of Literature and Communication, the College of Music, the College of Fine Arts, and Mingde College.

An award ceremony was held to commend the top ten news media of GZU, excellent contributing sectors for news network and excellent correspondents in 2018.

The student reporters from the media center, full of vigor and enthusiasm, read a poem passionately entitled "I am proud, I am a school media worker".

After watching a video about the campus studio, school leaders and representatives of teachers and students placed their hands on the big screen, which signaled the official opening of the studio. The event ended with the beautiful melody of the chorus "My Country and I" sung by teachers and students.

GZU, paying heed to the construction and management of media platforms on campus, has stepped up its efforts in accelerating campus media integration. It has now built a campus media matrix integrating newspaper, network, TV station, WeChat, and Weibo. The newly-built studio covers an area of 480 square meters, with a total investment of nearly 8 million yuan. The studio, equipped with a 3-camera 10-channel high-definition video recording system, is divided into five areas including: an editing area, broadcast instructing area, virtual area, interview area and culture display area. It is one of the largest and most comprehensive campus studios among colleges and universities in Southwest China. It is hoped that campus media will be integrated comprehensively and coordination will be strengthened as a whole. Additionally, the Center aims to carry out influential publicity activities with highlights and characteristics via the media matrix, and create a stable social environment for the implementation of “Double First-Class” initiative at GZU.
