On March 5th, Nora de Leeuw, Vice President of Cardiff University; Jiang Wenguo, Director of the China Affairs Office of Cardiff University; and Liu Xingfei, China Partnerships Manager of Cardiff University visited GZU. A meeting was held in 213, Dezheng Building. Present at the meeting were Vice President Zhang Qin and key personnel of GZU from sectors and colleges including the Office of Teacher Affairs, Graduate School, Science and Technology Research Institute, Office of International Relations, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, College of Resource and Environmental Engineering, College of Material and Metallurgy, and College of Pharmacy.

Zhang Qin delivered a short welcome speech to the delegation led by Nora de Leeuw and reviewed the collaborative work between GZU and Cardiff University since 2013. She stated that Cardiff University has been a friendly partner of GZU and cooperation between the two universities has achieved fruitful outcomes. Zhang Qin hopes that the universities will continue to heighten understanding and foster more cooperative research projects.

Nora de Leeuw noted that the aim of the visit is to optimize the existing projects’ operation and explore more effective models for future projects. Everyone involved hopes that both institutions will benefit from the projects and eventually increase professional advancement at each site.   

From September 2018 to January 2019, ten teachers from six liberal arts colleges of GZU received a four-month training on teaching methodology at Cardiff University. The Office of Teacher Affairs expressed that this training program has positively impacted teachers’ teaching practices. The office also introduced future cooperative programs.

The participants also discussed the management of postgraduate programs and collaborative programs related to a number of majors such as biochemistry, chemical engineering, geology, materials science and engineering, and pharmacy.
