Introduction

The College of Computer Science and Technology is located on the north campus of Guizhou University (Huaxi, Guiyang). Guizhou University is one of the earliest universities in China that established computer related majors. In 1972, it established an undergraduate computer software program. In 1983, it began to recruit post-graduates in the field of computer software. In 1986, the Computer Science Department was established. In 1992, the computer science and technology discipline was approved as one of the Provincial Key Disciplines. In 1995, the college obtained qualification to confer master's degrees in computer software and theory. It was approved to confer master’s degrees in computer application technology in 1998. In 2000, it was approved to confer PhDs in computer software and theory. In 2003, it was approved to confer master’s degrees in software engineering and computer technology. In 2004, it began to offer a master degree program for in-service faculty in colleges and universities in computer software and theory. In 2005, it was approved to confer master’s degrees of first-level disciplines in computer science and technology. In 2009, the college started to build a postdoctoral research station for computer science and technology. In 2011, the computer science and technology program was approved as a Guizhou Featured Key Discipline. In the same year, the second-level doctoral discipline program in computer software and theory was upgraded to a first-level doctoral discipline program in software engineering. In 2012, the Guizhou Key Laboratory of Software Engineering and Information Security was established. In 2013, it was recognized as postgraduate workstation of Computer Control Technology (the first professional master degree candidate workstation in Guizhou Province) and awarded "Advanced Computing and Medical Information Service Project Laboratory of Guizhou Province". In 2015, it was approved as a professional postgraduate workstation for cloud computing and big data in Guizhou Province. In 2015, the Guizhou Key Laboratory of Public Big Data (interdisciplinary program) was approved. In 2017, the Key Laboratory of Intelligent Medical Imaging Analysis and Precision Diagnostics in Guizhou Province was approved. In 2017, it cooperated with Zhuhai Obit Aerospace Technology Co., Ltd. to jointly build a satellite image big data engineering research center. In the fourth round of national discipline assessment in 2017, the first-level discipline of software engineering ranked “B-” (top 40%), and the first-level discipline of computer science and technology ranked “C+” (top 50%).

The College currently has three departments (computer science department, cyberspace security department, university student computer basic education center), one postdoctoral research station (postdoctoral mobile station for computer science and technology), one first-level discipline doctoral program (software engineering), two master's degree programs  of first-level disciplines (computer science and technology and software engineering), two professional master’s degree programs (computer technology and software engineering), two professional master’s degree candidate workstations (Guizhou Provincial Computer Control Technology Professional Master’s Degree Candidate Workstation and Guizhou Provincial Cloud Computing and Big Data Professional Master’s Degree Candidate Workstation), six undergraduate programs (computer science and technology, information security, network engineering, software engineering, digital media technology, spatial information and digital technology), one provincial key discipline (computer science and technology), one provincial level featured key discipline (Guizhou Provincial Featured Key Subject of Computer Science and Technology). The College also has two provincial key laboratories (Guizhou Provincial Key Laboratory of Intelligent Medical Image Analysis and Precision Diagnostics and Key Laboratory of Public Big Data of Guizhou Province), one Provincial Featured Key Laboratory (Featured Key Laboratory of Software Engineering and Information Security in Guizhou Province), one provincial engineering laboratory (Guizhou Provincial Advanced Computing and Medical Information Service Engineering Laboratory), six research institutes, one computer training center, and one engineering center,

The teachers and researchers of the College of Computer Science and Technology represent a good combination of expertise and skills, high academic level, rich practical experience, and a pioneering and innovative spirit. The College currently has 139 faculty members, including 126 full-time teachers, among whom, are 17 professors, 37 associate professors, 46 lecturers, four senior experimentalists, and 17 experimentalists. Twenty five teachers hold Ph.D. degrees and 70 hold master's degrees There are five provincial experts, two provincial distinguished teachers, five academic leaders at the university level, and five middle and young aged academic backbones for the university At present, there are nearly 2,000 students enrolled in the College, among which 30 are candidates in the doctoral program, over 300 are postgraduate students, and more than 1,500 are undergraduate students.

The College boasts first-class teaching, research, and experimental facilities. It has a key laboratory for image analysis and precision diagnosis in Guizhou Province, a featured key laboratory for software engineering and information security in Guizhou Province, and a laboratory for advanced computing and medical information services in Guizhou Province. It also has laboratories for computer software technology, information security, software engineering, university student innovation, network security, computer application technology, computer foundations, computer software and theory (for doctoral candidates), cloud computing and mobile internet, advanced computing and information engineering, cloud computing and big data, information security and intelligent science, and big data security and privacy protection.

The College has a wide range of research fields, adhering to the tradition of "focusing on basic theoretical research and the combination of theory and practice". After more than 40 years of construction, the College has developed many research areas and directions, such as "Theoretical Computer Science", "Cryptography and Information Security", "Artificial Intelligence and Pattern Recognition", "Database and Software Engineering", "Multimedia Technology", "Computer Measurement and Control and Embedded Software", "Network Security Testing", "Application System Software and Chinese Information Processing", "Big Data Management and Application", "Multi-source Data Fusion and Integration Technology", "Big Data Security and Privacy Protection", "Graphical Image Analysis and Processing", "Medical Image Processing and Precision Diagnostics", "Cloud Computing and Mobile Internet", and "Enterprise Information Systems and Applications". The College has formed its distinctive features and advantages, especially in the areas of computability theory and computational complexity, cryptography and information security, database technology, artificial intelligence, embedded systems, medical image processing, multi-source data fusion and integration technologies. Some theoretical research achievements have reached the international advanced level while others have reached the domestic advanced level. After more than four decades of development, its application results have made a great contribution to the economic development of Guizhou Province.

The graduates of the College, rich in professional knowledge, hands-on ability and creativity, are widely acclaimed by their communities and employers. Many outstanding graduates have made great contribution to the country. In recent years, the employment rate of doctoral and master's degree graduates has reached 100%, and the employment rate for undergraduates has exceeded 90%. The computer science and technology program has a very high reputation in Guizhou Province and throughout the country. The College has been actively serving the development strategy of big data in Guizhou Province, providing scientific, technological, and talent support for the development of big data in Guizhou Province.
