College of Marxism
Guizhou University is a national 'Project 211' key university. After being separated from the Department of Philosophy in 1987 the College of Marxism experienced two major mergers. It first merged with the Department of Social Sciences of the Guizhou Agricultural College in 1997 and then with the Department of Social Sciences of Guizhou University of Technology in 2004, becoming Marxism and Leninism Department of Guizhou University. In 2013, it was renamed the College of Marxism of Guizhou University. The college is now located on the 8th floor of Yifu Building on the North Campus of Guizhou University.
The College currently has a total of 70 teaching and administrative staff. Of its 66 full-time teachers, 11 are professors, 31 are associate professors, and 24 are lecturers. There are 45 teachers who hold a master's degree or above (including 20 teachers with a doctoral degree and four doctoral degree candidates). The majority of the faculty are middle-aged and young teachers under the age of 50. In accordance with university guidelines, the college has a general office, a teaching and research division, and a postgraduate division responsible for the administration, teaching, and research of the college. It also has a college library with three staff members.
According to the 'Advice on Further Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Theory Courses in Colleges and Universities' issued by the Publicity Department of CCCPC and the Ministry of Education in 2005, Marxism and Leninism Department rearranged its eight teaching and research divisions into six teaching and research divisions in April 2006.
(1) The Teaching and Research Section for Basic Principles of Marxism (referred to as 'Principles')
(2) The Teaching and Research Section for Introduction to Mao Zedong's Thoughts and the Theoretical System of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics (referred to as 'Introduction')
(3) The Teaching and Research Section for Outline of Modern Chinese History, which includes the Teaching and Research Office for Contemporary World Economics and Politics (referred to as 'Outline')
(4) The Teaching and Research Section for Ideological and Moral Cultivation and Fundamentals of Law (referred to as 'Fundamentals')
(5) The Teaching and Research Section for Situations and Policies
(6) The Teaching and Research Section for Guizhou Provincial Status
The College of Marxism currently has four academic master programs including Basic Principles of Marxism, the Study of Marxism in China, Ideological and Political Education and one professional master program that mainly enrolls college and university teachers in service. Currently 146 graduate students are enrolled, including 62 full-time postgraduates and 84 on-the-job postgraduates. The College adheres to the guiding principle of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, and the 'Three Represents.' It keeps up with the pace of current developments, integrates the thinking of contemporary college students, and constantly explores new approaches in the teaching of 'Ideological and Political Education' in colleges and universities. As a result, great achievements have been made in both teaching and scientific research.
The College of Marxism of Guizhou University is a teaching unit mainly responsible for teaching courses in ideological and political theory. It undertakes the task of the systematic education of students in Marxism and is mainly engaged in ideological and political education. It plays a crucial role in shaping students' correct worldview, outlook on life, and values. It also contributes greatly to enhancing students' belief in Marxism and Socialism as well as boosting their confidence in the Reform and Opening-up policy, modernization, and building up trust in the Communist party and the government. The College of Marxism of Guizhou University adheres to the guidance of Marxism-Leninism, Mao Zedong Thought, Deng Xiaoping Theory, the 'Three Represents', the Scientific Outlook on Development, and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialist Economy with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. It aims to help students master the basic theory and spiritual essence of Marxism and cultivates them to be successors of the socialist cause who possess ideals, ethics, culture, and discipline.
Introduction to the Institute of Long March Culture
The predecessor of the Long March Cultural Research Institute of Guizhou University was the Zunyi Red Culture Research Institute (originally established in August 2013). In accordance with the principles of complementary advantages and win-win cooperation, the Institute actively integrates high-quality resources from all fields. It has signed collaborative innovation agreements with the Party History Research Office of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee, Zunyi Normal College, Zunyi Municipal Civilization Office, Lecturers' Group, and Zunyi Meeting Memorial Hall. The Institute will take the lead and define the responsibilities and specific divisions for each.
The Institute plans to work in laboratory construction, teaching and scientific research base construction, training of cadres, scientific research, discipline construction, academic exchanges, and social services. It creatively combines the research of Zunyi red culture and research in adapting Marxism to the conditions in China, and strives to build Zunyi Red Culture Research Institute into a first class research base in Guizhou province, as well as an influential research base in China.
Prof. Feng Xiaoxian, former deputy secretary of the Communist Party committee in Guizhou University, is now the Head of the Institute.
The Institute has established councils and expert advisory committees in accordance with its various projects, as well as departments responsible for specific work. These include the scientific research department; the Liaison department; the department of consultation, education, and training; and the department of assets finance. In accordance with the requirements of the research project, the institute has formulated the following management and operation mechanisms based on the establishment and improvement of the organizational structure: the competition mechanism of talents; the management regulations of research project contracts; the regulations of welfare allocation, rewards, and punishments; the mechanism of industrial development, education and training, and policy consultation; the system of resource exchange and sharing; and the mechanism of comprehensive support for research projects.
